The prestressed grouted sleeve connection offers enormous benefits infabrication and construction. Research was performed at MonashUniversity in the last 10 years on the behavior of such connectionsunder static loading, fatigue loading and under elevated temperatures.There is a potential use of this type of connection in building industrythat may subject to earthquake loading. This paper describes a series oftests on grouted sleeve connections subject to large deformation cyclicloading. The effect of cyclic loading on peak loads, energy absorptionand coefficient of friction are studied. The heating generated by frictionduring the cyclic loading was found beneficial to the behavior of suchconnections under earthquake loading.
