This paper is devoted to the time accurate simulation of thegeneration and propagation of waJ,es generated by a segmentedwavemaker in a 3D tank. The flow is described in the frameworkof potential theory, with second-order Stokes expansion ofnonlinear boundary conditions on the free surface and on thewave maker. The resulting initial boundary value problem issolved using a recently developed spectral formulation. The basicprinciples of the numerical scheme are first presented. Then;some illustrative results on the generation of oblique waJ,es in thenew ECK offshore wave tank are given; comparing the standardsnake’s principle to Dalrymple’s method. The objective of thisresearch is to investigate both in time and in space the usabletest area in a our multi-directional waJ,e tank, for given requiredsea states.
