Biogas recovery is a very important issue nowadays both for the greater and greater interest in renewableenergy resources and for the increasing problem of greenhouse gas reduction into atmosphere. In Italy,thanks to the new incentives scheme on biomethane, an interesting application for biogas deals with theseparation and liquefaction of methane in order to produce an alternative vehicle fuel (LBG). The choice ofthe liquefaction technology has a big impact on the economics of such projects. The purpose of this paper isto present the feasibility analysis of a small scale biomethane plant taking into account investment costs,achievable energy efficiency and incentives available on the Italian market. It was assessed that an incentivehigher than 0.35 €·Nm~(-3) of biomethane is necessary in order to make the project feasible.
