摘要

In this paper we present a completely newtechnique to extract 3D models from digitalaerial images, by combining them withtopographical maps of the site. An efficientC++ application has been developed, in orderto generate 3D VRML models by exploiting bothimage data from on board digital camera and adatabase of topographical maps covering verylarge amounts of sites. Obviously, GPS data setsare required in order to match images withtopographical maps.The described system works as follow. Aerialimages are taken during traditional airplane orUAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) flight. DEMdata are used to generate a 3D terrain model.Then, all images are referred on the 3D terrainmodel and glued onto it. By matchingtopographical maps with aerial images anautomatic recognition algorithm extracts civiland industrial buildings contours and creates3D textured models of them.
