This paper proposes a novel method for extracting equivalent circuit (EC) model of circular patch and ring frequency selective surfaces (FSSs), by virtue of discretization of the circular patch or ring into multiple tiny rectangular sections. By this method the lumped RLC parameters in the EC model can be calculated from closed-form formulae for rectangular strip array. Numerical examples for calculating the S parameter of absorbers based on circular patch and ring FSSs by the proposed method and full-wave solver (i.e. ANSYS HFSS) for comparison are provided. The results from the proposed method are well consistent with those from HFSS, while the proposed method reveals much higher calculation efficiency. The proposed method has potential applications in design and optimization of electromagnetic structures such as absorbers and radomes, containing circular patch and ring FSSs.
