This paper proposes a measurement based methodology towards the development of behavioral patterns regarding the lighting usage in offices. Based on measurements concerning illumination in working environment, in relation to work place occupation and outdoors weather conditions, the presented methodology highlights the fundamental aspects regarding the involved parameters towards the development of new and sophisticated lighting control algorithms. The results derived by the measurements indicate that subjective criteria, related to personal preferences, differentiate behavior patterns for users with similar objective characteristics. Thus, a user-oriented algorithm for lighting control should take into account crucial information about personalized behavioral patterns in order to adjust illumination in respect to history data, current weather conditions and feedback by the user.
