Vertical farming is an unconventional farming technique that has gained relevance in recent years, as existing agricultural lands fail to meet the needs of the growing population. Smart monitoring of the ambient parameters in vertical farming can improve the productivity and quality of the crops. A system has been proposed to develop sensor arrays that can measure the ambient parameters and upload the data onto the ThingSpeak Cloud, using the Intel Edison wireless module. The web-based application can be used to analyze and monitor the light, temperature, humidity, and soil moisture of the vertical farming stacks. Using the Virtuino app, a SMS can be sent if the parameters fall below a threshold value.
