In order to study the safety stability of shallow tunnels under unsymmetricalpressure and traversing existing roads, a 3D numerical model of considering realsurface elevation changes was established for a different construction scheme in adifferent range according to the Changshao neighborhood tunnel engineering on theXi-kang Expressway. The construction process of traversing the S102 road wassimulated in the entrances’ range. The deformation law, the stress distribution, thedeformation characteristics of middle wall and lining supporting structure, and thesettlement law of existing highway surface were obtained for range of the shallowcovering excavation and shallow hiding excavation. The safety evaluations on theengineering construction of traversing the existing highway were made. Theanalyzed results had positive effects on the successful construction of the Changshaoneighborhood tunnel.
