The effect of interface between carbon fiber and pyrolitic carbon on thegraphitization process was studied by laser Raman microspectroscopy. The pyroliticcarbon is of smooth laminar texture. Experimental result showed that the location inthe range of 2 μm from the interface in pyrolitic carbon has a more distinct increasein crystal size or perfection of crystallite with the increase of HTT than thelocation far away from the interface. Similar result was obtained in carbon fiber. Itappears that the interface effect of graphitization results from the hot stressinduced by the difference of thermal expansion between carbon fiber and pyroliticcarbon. Then, the hot stress was estimatively calculated ,which reveals that the hotstress get its highest point at the interface and decreases with the increase of thedistance from the interface.
