BUBBLECHAT: SUPPORTING SYNCHRONOUS COOPERATIVELEARNING PROCESSES

Software support for processes in synchronousrncooperative learning sessions is useful for scenariosrnrequiring a specification of information, activities andrninteraction in a group, e.g., professional training. Inrnaddition, playing back of cooperative sessions is a featurernhelpful for those involved in learning and teaching. Thisrnpaper describes our experience in developing softwarerntools providing those functionalities. The BubbleChat toolrnprovides process support for discussion among learnersrnwith learning materials, and the BubbleChat-Player toolrnallows users to play back past BubbleChat sessions. In thernpaper, the features of those tools are described. A model isrndeveloped for processes in synchronous cooperativernlearning, which in addition facilitates the development ofrnplayers for cooperative sessions. The usage of thernsoftware is described, and further possibilities ofrndeveloping more flexible groupware supporting intensivernsynchronous cooperative learning are discussed.
