This paper provides an overview of key mechanical design aspectsnof induction motors applied to adjustable speed drives to their optimizenperformance and ensure the reliability of the system. Rotating assemblynstresses, shaft resonances, bearing limitations and lubrications arendiscussed and related to practical limitations. An application examplenand failure analysis from a Chevron production facility are presented tonhighlight design concerns and key areas of attention required to achievenreliable and cost-effective performance
