National and international structural design codes requires several final checks on the built structure. The aim is to verify that the structural characteristics of the building are compliance with the design. It is clear that for this purpose non-destructive testing methods are preferred. The authors have previously presented a method for the characterization of slabs made of steel fiber reinforced concrete. In this paper, an improvement of this technique will be proposed. The measurement system has been carefully optimized; the advantages in terms of better repeatability, lower sensitivity to temperature and better estimation of the power losses due to the steel fibers have been evaluated through a preliminary experimental activity. The setup has been also modified in order to accommodate cylindrical core samples obtained by drilling a SFRC structure. The experimental results are reported and discussed.
