Geostatistics is a new emerging statistical method researching spatial variability and now is widely applied on many research fields, including agrology, ecology, geology, hydrology and other fields which variables have spatial heterogeneity. Geostatistics was used to analyze the spatial variability of soil water characteristics of the study area in the paper. Parameters analysis of semivariogram model indicated that soil water characteristics had varying degrees of variability in the measurement range; the spatial variability of natural water content was moderate; field moisture capacity, wilting point and saturation moisture content had weak variation. In the range of measurement, the ranges of soil water characteristics were changing in a large extension. The range of wilting point was the biggest (94.2 m), whereas that of saturation moisture content was the smallest (19.1 m). The analysis results showed that soil water characteristics in the study area had spatial variabilities and heterogeneous structure; spatial variabilities were mainly caused by some nonhuman factors, such as soil parent material, terrain and climate.
