A new type of magnetic abrasive is introduced in this paper,rnwhich is named as unbounded magnetic abrasives. Thernmagnetic abrasives hold easy making, low cost and goodrnworking characteristics, so it possesses a better applyingrnvalue. The unbounded magnetic abrasive is a mechanicalrnmixture of SiC abrasive and ferromagnetic particles withrnlubricant. In order to gain the best machining property of thernmagnetic abrasive, a lot of experiments have been done,rnespecially to test the working quality and working efficiencyrnof the magnetic abrasive, for which, iron grit and steel gritrnwere used as ferromagnetic particles, each of them beingrnmixed with 5.5μm SiC abrasive. In the meantime,rnexperiments also have been done to test the finishingrncharacteristics of the magnetic abrasive used steel grit onlyrnand the unbounded magnetic abrasive without addedrnlubricant. The experiment results indicate that when mixedrnwith SiC abrasive by lubricant steel grit used as ferromagneticrnparticles is more suitable for MAF then iron grit, and thernmagnetic abrasive of steel grit only is also have goodrnmachining property in working workpiece with lowerrnhardness. It overcomes the problem of high cost, difficultrnmaking of the magnetic abrasive. All of this will be importantrnsignificance for MAF to realize industrialization
