Brown corundum powder, as an abrasive, was prepared byrnmilling of brown corundum ingots by using various crushers.rnThe shape of brown corundum particle is directly related torncrusher used and its abrasive property. Thus shaperncharacterization of brown corundum particle is extremelyrnimportant. In order to investigate the effect of crusher used onrnparticle shape, three shape factors, i.e. Roundness (R), Aspectrnratio (AR) and Sharpness (S) were proposed to describe thernparticle shape in different aspects. And they were calculatedrnusing geometrical parameters determined by scanningrnelectron microscopy (SEM) and image analysis. Mean shapernfactor and shape factor distribution are used to characterizernthe particle shape of brown corundum powders. This resultrnreflects the actual shape of brown corundum powder particles.rnThree brown corundum powders were milled by double-rollrncrusher, ball crusher and cone crusher, respectively. Thernmajority of the particles of powder milled by ball crusherrnhave a larger R, smaller AR and S. However the majority ofrnthe particles of powders milled by double-roll crusher or conerncrusher, have smaller R, larger AR and S.
