This paper discusses the theory and initial results of the application of the ideas regarding 'similarity' introduced by Verma (Verma 1998) as a means of improving 'left shift' in the Systems Engineering lifecycle at BAE SYSTEMS. In particular, it concentrates upon the practical application of these ideas in a real world environment.
