How the Application of Management Information System (MIS) Affects Business Value (BV) in the Airline Industry

This article is based on the utilization of the MIS and Decision Support Systems (DSS) as significant factors influencing the BV of an airline. Authors state that a contemporary airline company needs to increase its investments in IT, specifically MIS and DSS applications. This hypothesis is based on the analysis of business needs ofpassenger airline pricing for such airlines as British Airlines, KLM, LOT (Polish Airlines), Svet Aero as well as on the research carried out with airline executives and their clients. The included examples illustrate that the payback period for investments in MIS/DSS~even during unfavorable economic environment - is less than a year.
