The Position of Portuguese Public Universities in the Field of IS/IT: Current Stage of Development and Strategic Importance

Information systems and the use of information technology have produce profound changed and had serious impact on organizations. To understand these it is important to captures the different contexts and situations using acceptable frameworks and methodologies. In the case of universities, we have applied the same instruments as are used in a general business to gather, to analyse, and understand the use and the impact of information systems and information technology in supporting the business process. In this way, we have tried to identify the position of Portuguese public universities on this field to analysing the reason for this and identifying some future trends that could promote changes in current situation in relations to organization, management and informational model.
