After classifying the multitude of the ontologydevelopment methodologies available in the literature, wepropose a new ontology development approach, by combiningactivities from these methodologies, based on the needs of anovice ontology developer. This approach is adaptive, withrespect to contextual factors, which affect the ontologyengineering. In order to achieve this, we apply a twofoldrestriction on the contextual factors considered. One concernsthe knowledge level of the ontology developer in a specificdomain and the other concerns the strategy to be followedtowards ontology creation. We propose four alternativescenarios for the novice ontology developer to choose, in orderto build his personal domain ontology. The choice of theappropriate scenario to be followed, depends on his knowledgelevel of the domain under description and his degree ofaccessibility to the available resources required by the ontologyengineering process
