Genetic Diversity Studies for Floral Traits Among CMS Lines and Maintainers in Rice

Twenty CMS lines and their maintainer lines were grouped into ten clusters by using Mahalanobis D~2 statistic based on their floral traits. Number of spikelets per panicle was found to contribute maximum towards genetic divergence followed by filament length, stigma breadth and anther length. The clusters Ⅴ and Ⅸ were highly divergent. The genotypes IR 70372 and CRMS 32 were found most promising on the basis of their statistical distance and cluster mean values. These genotypes can be used in hybrid rice breeding programme.
