For the study of beam induced nuclear reaction an 80 cm diameter chamber is designed to fulfill the requirement of various experiments involving charged particle detection. The General Purpose Scattering Chamber (GPSC) is installed at one of the beam lines of the Folded Tandem Ion Accelerator (FOTIA) in the Van de Graaff Lab of BARC. It has provision to bring any one of the eight targets in beam path at desired orientation and change the angles of its two detector arms, while in vacuum. The chamber is designed to operate in better than 2x10~(-7) Torr vacuum. The chamber is made of stainless steel and has a height of 45 cm. It has eight ports in the horizontal plane. A 90 cm diameter lid is provided at the top to facilitate the access, which is operated with motorized mechanism. The GPSC is being used for various experiments.
