摘要

The electromagnetic fields produced around the electron source of an electron gun play a significant role in beam shaping, especially for large area cathodes. Such a phenomenon was observed during the development of a high power strip electron beam gun. Significant changes in the beam shape were observed with a.c. and d.c. filament heating currents. The linear beam current density was measured along the beam length with a.c. and d.c. filament currents to demonstrate this effect. The results are presented in this paper.
