A Research Protocol for Analyzing Green Building Construction

Several studies suggest green construction can result in significant cost savings by improving employeernproductivity, increasing benefits from improvements in health and safety, and providing savings from energy,rnmaintenance, and operational costs. It is proposed that these benefits will far exceed any initial cost of greenrnconstruction thereby fully substantiating the case for green construction. This research will quantify thernhypothesized benefits by establishing a set of measurable performance and building attribute variables, collectingrndata over time, examining the relationships, and statistically analyzing the results for case studies located in thernPittsburgh, Pennsylvania region. Preliminary absenteeism data from a precast concrete manufacturing plant isrnpresented and discussed.
