The Effect of Infrastructure Sharing in Estimating ManufacturingCosts of Future Space Transportation Systems

Infrastructure sharing is concerned with making use of the same production facility, critical skills and tooling tornproduce similar elements of different systems. For example, the Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF), currently usedrnfor the assembly of external tanks (ET) may also be used for assembling payload carriers or several stages of thernsame launch vehicle. This paper is based on a study made to assess the effect of infrastructure sharing in estimatingrnthe manufacturing costs of a new system.
