This paper introduces the phenomenon of gene expressivity into a random keys genetic algorithm (RKGA). Asrnmotivation, consider polydactyly, in which a person has extra digits which range in appearance from skin tags tornfully functional digits. Polydactyly exhibits the related genetic concepts of penetrance (how many organisms exhibitrna condition to any degree) and gene expressivity (the degree to which the condition is exhibited). We integrate genernexpression in a RKGA implementation to find low makespan solutions for scheduling flexible flowlines withrnsequence-dependent setup times. We investigate the quality of solutions found and the time to find the solutions.
