In the cellular manufacturing environment, CNC centers often become bottleneck machines requiring many costlyrnsetups to switch between families of parts. This research presents an algorithm-based approach to potentially reducernthe total number of CNC center setups, increase machine utilization and flexibility, and improve total makespan.rnThe approach dynamically groups only parts from multiple part families that are to be produced during the currentrnproduction period whether it is a day, a week, a month, or a quarter and the algorithm can be executed at any timernwithin the production period to revise the plan as production requirements change.
