➢ Key parameters that affect sparking from composite joints have been established ➢ Functions that can control these parameters are understood ➢ A design that targets these specific functions provides protection against fuel tank sparking from composite joints and allows for compliance with the guidelines set by the certification authorities • The physical processes leading to the sparking phenomena are not fully understood in a quantifiable manner • Further understanding will allow for more efficient lightning strike protection techniques and the possible reduction of design margins • EADS Innovation Works are progressing towards this understanding.
