The new Gd Scintillation glass fiber arrays as a key component of cold neutron detector composed of 10-μm diameter Gd glass fibers with a center-to-center distance of 12 μm have been invented and fabricated. A cooled Andor iKon-LDZ936 charge-coupled device(CCD) coupled with a Nikon Nikkor 135-mm lens was used to read out the scintillation light from the array. It was found that the detection system has a spatial resolution of about 50 μm. The achieved spatial resolution is mainly limited by the low resolution of the optical readout system. To further characterize the spatial resolution of these arrays, a higher resolution optical readout system is desired.
