Extreme weather can lead to serious contingencies in power systems. Risk assessment based on weather forecast is pivotal for emergency response and restoration plan of potential contingencies in power grids. Numerous models and algorithms of electric asset risk prediction have been proposed in the last few decades. This paper reviews various models and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of these methods for weather-related outage prediction in power systems. The risk assessment process of power systems under extreme weather conditions based on these methods is also illustrated.
