As the composite material technology advances, sensing modalities in such structures come into question. In this paper, sensing performance of complementary split ring resonators (CSRR) is studied for lossy and highly anisotropic structures which represents unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced polymers. Relation between the resonance frequency and the thickness of a dielectric layer deposited on a composite material is presented. The response of the sensor is investigated for different material properties. An average of 1 MHz resonance frequency shift for 1 μm thickness change is observed.
