A highly sensitive label-free biosensor for detection and characterization of human cells is presented. The biosensor is based on a split-ring resonator with a split-cut of 35μm wide that operates at 2 GHz. The biosensor is designed and simulated using a full-wave simulation tool (Ansys HFSS). Two types of human cells ware modeled as solid spheres with their corresponding experimentally measured electrical properties found in the literature. The resonator successfully differentiated between the two human cells by the means of frequency shifts and changes in its insertion loss.
