The usefulness of applying neural network technology to activesonar classifier development is discussed. The authors offer qualitativeresults to help those interested in assessing this technology to reach adeeper understanding of its value. At a minimum, the nature of theobservations strongly suggest that the best way to evaluate neuralnetwork technology is to attempt to apply it to real developmentprojects
