Organizational culture as a barrier of information technology adoption: The case of Moroccan Small and Medium Enterprises

Purpose: Based on literature review from information technology adoption, the purpose of our study is to suggest a research model of organizational culture being a barrier to information technology adoption within Moroccan small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). The model presents some organizational variables as the main barriers to information technology adoption in SME. Design/methodology/approach: For a better understanding of information technology adoption and collecting information and data, a systematic review was carefully done. Then, based on theoretical results, a qualitative study was conducted to collect data from Moroccan SMEs of different sectors. And finally, empirical results were analyzed to propose the final model. Findings: The analysis of study results have shown some significant barriers relating to organizational cultures. The main barriers discussed in this study are organizational informalization, resistance to change of technologies' stakeholders and the centralized decision making in SME.
