Current mode circuits are being increasingly employed for the design of controllers. This paper presents the design of a current mode PID controller for an inverted pendulum system. The transfer function of the PID controller for the inverted pendulum system is obtained using the well-known optimization algorithm, the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and is subsequently implemented using a second generation current conveyor (CCII) circuit. The uniqueness of the proposed work is that the PID controller is realized using a single CCII circuit. Simulations are performed using the AD844 IC and the results in the time domain are presented.
