The development of Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) has gained more attention in recent years given that it can provide better exploiting transmission capability based on actual weather conditions. DLR technologies have been developed to monitor weather conditions and operating conditions of the lines and then forecast the ampacity of the line based on measured data. In this work, however, a mathematical approach is proposed to determine DLR without line monitoring equipment. A daily weather forecast is required to predict the weather conditions. An interval arithmetic method is then applied to handle forecasting errors. Thus, each weather parameter is uncertain and represented by an interval. As a result, the line ampacity is computed as upper and lower bounds for each given weather condition.
