The third generation partnership project (3GPP) standardized the technical specification TS26.267 for in-vehicle emergency call (eCall) system with the support of European Union. The international standard aims to transmit the emergency data reliably and rapidly. This paper introduces the system architecture of the eCall system and the theoretical model of the eCall in-band modem. According to the system model and requirements of the eCall, an in-vehicle system (IVS) hardware platform is designed based on NXP i.MX6 processor and Linux operating system. A test procedure is introduced for the hardware platform. The IVS platform is tested and verified by pressing the emergency button to trigger an emergency call. The platform can also be used for the verification of the IVS chip design and research on the next generation eCall.
