This paper describes the principles and some experience of implementing a self healing solution for automatic supply restoration on MV distribution networks. This solution is developed & tested within the GreenLys project. The system is a decentralized solution which does not require a distribution management system (DMS). The fault location, isolation and restoration actions are calculated by a number of collaborating Remote Terminal Units that communicate with each other “peer to peer”. The system has been designed to allow for easy expansion by adding more remote control units. The algorithm works with any looped feeder network, both underground and overhead. Any automated systems such as for self-healing must be tested and gain the confidence of the people who work with it. The self-healing system has been installed as part of GreenLys. This is a smart grid project demonstrator at real scale developed & tested in the municipalities of Lyon and Grenoble, and covering the whole chain of the electric system
