Optical methods for detecting contamination in jet fuel

Jet fuel is often contaminated with water and microbes, which can lead to fatal consequences if fuel systems on aircraft become clogged. The growing use of bio-fuels for aviation can increase the chance of contamination. We have developed an optical method for analyzing jet fuel that can detect dispersed water and microbe contamination at low concentration levels. The optical sensor enables a chemical assay to be carried out and quantified by a digital readout whilst ensuring that there is no danger of electrical spark.
