Early breast cancer detection using hybrid imaging modality

摘要

This paper presents a two-dimensional theoretical investigation into a hybrid method which aimed to improve the resolution in breast cancer detection. It uses the combined microwave and acoustic excitations to exploit contrasts in both the dielectric and elastic properties of malignant and normal breast tissues. It is based on the recent findings which show that, in addition to the dielectric contrast, different types of tissues in the breast exhibit contrasts in their elastic properties; cancerous tissue is much stiffer than both adipose tissue and normal fibro-glandular tissue.
