Information Systems: An Agent for Growth in Rural Small and Medium Enterprises

This study is sought to investigate the efficient use of Stock Ordering System (SOS) as an information system innovation and later posit a conceptual theoretical framework for its efficient use at the organisational level in the Sekhukhune Rural Living Lab (RLL) in an attempt to leverage the socioeconomic challenges in the region. The rural living labs are open innovation environments which advocate for the creation of user-centric ecosystems for rural developments. Thus, the RLL serves as a technological response to develop and industrialize the rural areas through a perpetual process of prototyping information system innovationson SMEs leading to competitiveness and sustenance. A single unique case of Sekhukhune, as a rural area in South Africa will contribute to methodological contribution, to gain a profound knowledge of a phenomenon in its natural setting. In conclusion, the stock ordering system efficient use fuels the rural areas to become economically viable and self-sustainable.
