With the rapid emergence and application of Internet of Things and artificial intelligence technology, lightweight system security certification has become a problem that needs urgent solution. Although the classic password authentication technology is effective, it is often limited to a limited amount of computing and storage resources, and the cost is greatly increased. However, physical unclonable function (PUF) can effectively solve this problem as an emerging technology. According to the implementation method of PUF, we divide 13 important PUF into three categories. Subsequently, we show its seven attributes, combine with its excellent attributes, explore its four application scenarios from the perspective of cryptographic engineering, and propose its four advantages in key generation applications. Finally, we also give three PUF chips for use.
