Conventional LCDs are inferior to CRTs for displaying motion pictures, because whereas a CRT provides impulsive display, an LCD has slow response time and hold-type driving scheme, which creates a perception of discrete movements and results in blurring over consecutive frames. We have developed 17’’ SXGA OCB (Optically Compensated Bend) mode TFT-LCD, which is well known for its fast LC response and wide viewing angle properties with similar structure and process to TN-LCD. To Improve motion picture quality of LCDs, black image insertion method was applied to the OCB mode TFT-LCD. We found out that image quality of motion pictures near CRT was obtained in pseudoimpulse type OCB mode LCD.
