We have developed a 3.35M Pixel Interleaved Array (PIA) CCD image sensor with the horizontal charge mixture function. It provides both 5.134 frames/sec 2136-line progressive color pictures and 30 frames/sec 356-line progressive color pictures. The feature was achieved by introducing the horizontal line memory (LM) and 8 phases drive HCCD. The LM is located between VCCD and HCCD and it works as a buffer of charge. Moreover, sensitivity is increasing two times by using this horizontal pixel mixture function. LM enables to reduce the number of HCCD. HCCD drive voltage is set to 3.0V. A Digital Still Camera (DSC) which satisfies the smooth motion pictures quality as well as high-definition still picture quality has been developed by employing this sensor.
