High phase number drives possess several advantages over conventional three phase drives, such as reduction in the amplitude and an increase in the frequency of torque pulsations and improved reliability. Using a multiphase machine as a generator where the output is to be rectified will raise the frequency of the output ripple so that filtering can be performed with a few small passive components. To properly simulate a machine we need to have not only a representative model but also accurate parameters for the model. Because of the low values of machine inductances, in axial-field machines, different methods are used for measuring the self and mutual inductances. In order to verify the measurement of the machine parameters a PSpice model has been proposed. Measured voltages and currents were compared with PSpice simulation results. Good agreement was obtained over a set of loads, showing the expected symmetries and variation of coupling. Comparing the simulation results of the complete generator and motor drive system models with the experimental results has performed further verification.
