A New RD Program “Infrastructure Maintenance, Renovation and Management” in Japan for Innovation in Infrastructure Maintenance and Management

After five decades of development, Japanese stocks of infrastructure have reached enormousrnamount of over US$7000 billion. Some of the infrastructures are not in good condition now.rnJapanese government decided to invest on research and development for efficient infrastructurernmanagement. A new R&D program named “Infrastructure maintenance, renovation andrnmanagement” was launched in 2013 under the Japanese Council of Science, Technology andrnInnovation (CSTI)’s Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP). Thisrninitiative is expected to prevent further accidents and provide an example for efficient infrastructurernmaintenance by reducing the burden of maintenance works and cost.
