The PAUSE (Picosat and Uninhabited Aerial VehiclernSystems Engineering) project, currently underrndevelopment at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory inrnPasadena, California and the University of California atrnLos Angeles, is a high-altitude balloon-based aerobotrnwhich carries a gondola outfitted with variousrninstruments. An aerobot is a robot designed to fly in thernatmosphere of planets and moons, providing extensivernregional access while gathering high resolution data.rnAerobots have a multitude of applications such asrnmapping a terrestrial surface, ground surveillance, andrnin-situ atmospheric composition surveying. The latestrnversion of PAUSE was deployed from Oregon where itrnsuccessfully relayed live GPS, temperature, altitude,rnvelocity, battery status, images, and magnetometer datarnto multiple ground stations. The goals of PAUSE are torndemonstrate that existing technologies can be used forrnAero-Robotic exploration and to develop newrntechnology where existing options prove unsatisfactory.
