GENETIC ALGORITHMS FOR CALIBRATING A CATCHMENT MODELLING SYSTEM WITH SPATIALLY VARIABLE PARAMETERS

A real-value coding genetic algorithm has been used to evaluate spatially variable control parameters for implementation with the Storm Water Management Model (SWMM). It was found that the real-value coding GA based on using multiple storm calibration was a robust search technique to identify the most generic values for spatially variable control parameters. Also presented is the application of this spatially variable control parameter calibration approach to a SWMM based model of the Centennial Park catchment in Sydney, Australia. Furthermore, a comprehensive investigation of the GA operators in a high dimensional search space was conducted also in this study.
