In order to establish a method forrnmonitoring contamination in insulators and evaluatingrnthe recovery of hydrophobicity. Leakage current andrncumulative charge of an artificially polluted 22kVrndistribution type insulator were investigated in the wetrncontaminated condition under increasing and fixedrnapplied voltages. Leakage current is observed andrnanalyzed by using differential method and FFT. Thisrndifferential technique can separate conductive currentrnin the water film on the polymer surface into eachrncomponent, corona discharge current and dry band arcrndischarge current. Influence of pollution level ofrnNSDD on the electrical discharge and its dischargerncurrent were investigated with the collapsed time. Thernresult of the polymer was compared with one kind ofrnporcelain insulator. The relation between pollutionrnlevel and leakage current is discussed in comparisonrnbetween polymer and porcelain.
