Complex impulse current test system for testing surge arrester up to 200 KA

An impulse current test system in star /rncoaxial arrangement is presented, which can carry outrnall impulse current and performance tests on surgernarrester sections with rated voltages up to 12 kVrnaccording to IEC 60099-4: 1998. The maximumrnachievable peak value is 200 kA for the impulserncurrent 4/10 μs and 60 kA for the 30/80 μs currentrnshape. By using vertically arranged coils all longrnduration impulse currents up to 3200 μs can bernrealized. Additionally the impulse current can bernsuperimposed with an AC voltage for operating dutyrntests. With the AC supply the power frequency testrnversus time curve can also be realized. Current andrnvoltage measurements, both for AC and impulse, arernrealized by a digital transient recorder with fourrnchannels. A complex control, measuring, evaluationrnand data storage system, controlled by one industrialrnPC, completes the test system.
