A mathematical thermal model of SulpherrnHexaflouride (SF6) gas cooled type gas insulatedrnpower transformer has been formulated, programmedrnfor computer solution, and verified. In this model allrnsignificant parameters that influence transformerrnoperation have been included. The thermal model canrnpredict the transformer temperatures for any variationrnin electrical loading and for any ambient thermalrnenvironment. Results predicted by the simulationrninclude the average temperatures of the core and coilrnassembly and SF6 insulated gas. The contributions ofrnconvection and radiation to the total heat transfer raternwere also considered. The calculated results arerncompared with measured temperature data collectedrnduring the testing program carried out by otherrnresearch group.
